There are five skin types: sensitive, dry, normal, combination, and oily. Below provides a brief description of each skin type.
Normal skin, which is common, is just that "normal." Normal skin has a regular texture, soft, clean, and does not require much maintenance or special regimens.
Combination skin is the combination of oily and dry skin. The sebaceous glands (which secrete oil) and sweat glands (which secrete sweat/water) not mixing results in oily skin in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) and skin that appears dry around the cheeks.
Oily Skin is the result of excess secretions of the sebaceous gland. Oily skin appears porous and bright. Oily skin is usually associated with acne.
Sensitive skin, sometimes referred to as irritated skin, has abnormal reactions to heat, oil, sunlight, and other ingredients that normal skin would not normally react to.
Dry skin, characterized by a feeling of "tightness" can appear scaley or cracked. Dry skin irritation includes itchiness and redness which can lead to an increase of bacteria and microorganisms on the skin.
